Vacationing down the shore, we decided to look for a nice restaurant for dinner that didn’t have a long wait. We chose Carini’s Ristorante & Pizzeria located in the Crest. The restaurant has three dining areas, each one full of customers, however, the wait was nominal. Drink orders were taken quickly with our menus and the salads and hot bread placed on the table.
Our entrees included the Chicken Alla Carini, Chicken Parmigiana, Stuffed Shells, and a Chicken Cheesesteak Wrap.
The Chicken Alla Carini is two breasts of chicken covered in roasted peppers and lump crabmeat in a white wine sauce. The chicken was not very tender but the large helping of crab more than made up for it. The dish was swimming in wine sauce that really didn’t have much flavor but again the crab saved the dish.
The Chicken Parmigiana and Stuffed Shells were both enjoyed by Italian women with strong “gravy” opinions. Both ladies thought that the gravy on the dishes was very tasty, a nice surprise to get a high opinion. The chicken on this dish was tender and came with a side of pasta, choosing fettuccini. The shells were full of ricotta and baked nicely.
The Chicken Cheesesteak Wrap was not quite what was expected though we should have read the menu better. The wrap presented alone, sans fries, was full of shredded chicken, onion and sauce. The sauce was like the gravy for pasta which didn’t really make us want to continue eating it. It did come out piping hot which also made it very difficult to eat. The side of pasta from the chicken dish was substituted for this dish since it wasn’t enjoyed.
Overall, most of the meals were enjoyed and the lack of wait time was a positive point to our meal. The waitress was quick and in the beginning a little pushy, she could have seemed a little more interested in customer satisfaction. Carini’s may deserve a return to try the sandwiches and pizza.
