Fall Harvest Week in South Jersey, a great opportunity to break your normal routine and dine somewhere new. After seeing the Harvest Week ad on Facebook, we looked over all the restaurants listed (32 in all) deciding on Chubby’s 1 1/2 Hearth Steakhouse in Gloucester City. Reservations made, we arrived on time, seated by a friendly waiter. Comfortable and warm in an open setting, but still allowed for a nice causal conversation with our dining partner.
Special menu of 4 courses, fixed price of $35.00 for the Fall Harvest Week which runs until October 27. With 3 options for the first course we chose, House Chopped Salad and Beef Tartare. Both beautifully presented, salad with local tomatoes was super crisp and fresh. Loved the addition of the corn, which added sweetness and texture. Beef Tartare, my first time having was rich in flavor. Served with Rye Toast Points we spread on, mixing with the horseradish cream on top. Once we used up the toast points I finished with fork. An awesome starter that I can say I am hooked on.
The second course, Bang Bang Shrimp and Cream Sherry Steak Tips. Gigantic shrimp, firm texture, mild flavor from the Bourbon Korean BBQ Sauce. Quickly devoured. I can imagine a trip back to get as a main course. Steak Tips served on a bed of white polenta and married with mushrooms. Dish very rich with the Cream Sherry Sauce. Beef tender, another winner.
Our third course, Braised Lamb Shank– slow braised local lamb shank, stiffado pan sauce, whipped roasted garlic potatoes, local zucchini. I LOVE Lamb! I also do not get very often so this offering was a perfect match for me. Perfectly cooked, the lamb was tender and moist, fall of the bone. Pan sauce was banging. The garlic mashed potatoes, a great use of the garlic in relation to the the lamb. Amish Free Range Chicken– pan roasted free range chicken, wild mushroom risotto, squash gratin, tarragon chicken jus. Risotto mixed in with the chicken jus, masterful. Chicken had crisp skin, seasoned mildly, very moist. All dark meat, a mix of white would have completed for me as I am primarily a white meat person.
Final course dessert, Pumpkin Panna Cotta and Cheese Cake. Both desserts were rich and delicious! The Pumpkin Panna Cotta a light airy pumpkin pie without all the dough. We loved it, finishing off our dining without being a heavy dessert. The exact opposite, The Cheesecake! Super rich, caramel drizzled over top, a superior cheesecake that I was short 3 forks of finishing.
