Welcome to Good Food New Jersey’s Top Picks for 2017! This year was another fantastic dining adventure. We dined at many new locations and returned to some past favorites. We also added a Dive Bar Tour to our repertoire, where the focus was on wings, crowning a GFNJ KING OF WINGS. Our Top Picks listed we include a link to the original review/visit.
Kenilworth Diner, Kenilworth
We visited twice over the year to this modern diner. Comfortable surroundings, fantastic service, and excellent food. Great cheesecake I might add. In a state where diners rule, the Kenilworth Diner sits at the top of our list. http://goodfoodnewjersey.com/best-diners-of-nj-union-countys-kenilworth-diner/
Donkey’s Place, Camden
After hearing about Donkey’s on multiple occasions we finally made the trip to Camden in June for their famous cheese steak. We titled our visit/review “The Best Cheese Steak?” Today we officially take the “?” off that title. Donkey’s Cheese Steaks are the best! We happily returned in September for our 5th year anniversary and look forward to another visit soon. Great people and service, Donkey’s Place, The Best Cheese Steak hands down.
The Bistro Haddonfield
Located right in the town center of Haddonfield, The Bistro has few competitors. Comfortable location, great service, and excellent food. We have visited a few times over the last 5 years and each visit has been better than the last. The next time you visit Haddonfield, put The Bistro on your list.
Yong Kang Street, Bridgewater
We visited after being tempted with the statement “We have some Killer Thai Soup” on Twitter. Very friendly, and excellent service as well. As for the Killer Thai Soup? It was killer, devouring the entire bowl. Not often we thoroughly enjoy a visit to a chain style location, but we did at Yong Kang Street and we hope you will as well.
Monaghan House, South Amboy
We get many recommendations from our readers/friends and try to visit as many as we can. The Monaghan House was one of those recommendations. Old-School bar, that is welcoming and serves very good food. The Pierogi’s would be the #1 reason to check them out, with plenty of varieties to chose from. Did anyone say great bar pizza too? The Monaghan House, check them out and tell them we sent ya!
Joe’s Maplewood, Hammonton
Joe’s Maplewood, a landmark on the White Horse Pike in Hammonton,. old fashioned feel, great hospitality, and great food. From their large family style house salad to their homemade bread, a relaxing experience awaits. “Joe’s Special” or any other dish, you will be certain to love.
Soul Berri, Brigantine
Coffee, smoothies and Soul Bowls, healthy, freshly made, and awesome! We visited over the summer and were impressed with the goodness Soul Berri serves the community. Open during the off-season Friday-Sunday so you can feed your SOUL!
Rochesters BBQ, Lawnside
Rochesters makes our list for the third consecutive year because they serve incredible soul food! Since their opening we have managed to circle back and dine with this terrific family run business. Tradition, tradition, tradition, this is what makes their food a favorite of ours!
Our first visit was for our dive-bar tour and wings. Discovered little in the “dive category”. With awesome wings, and a super menu, Mulligan’s is all that. Our second visit we discovered fantastic Lobster Mac & Cheese! We will certainly be back for more great food and hospitality. Also crowned our 2017 King of Wings.
Sebastian’s Schnitzelhaus, Wrightstown
Authentic German, from the menu to the decor, down to the wait staff. If you love German food as we do, Sebastian’s is the place! Sunday Brunch could be the best way to get your German on or to explore some German heritage.
Bo Ne, Woodbury
First discovered Bo Ne after their opening in 2013, loving them! Finally returned this year and thrilled to report that Bo Ne is still awesome! Great food and pricing in a modest setting, Vietnamese doesn’t get any better then this.
Lambertville Station Restaurant & Inn, Lambertville
Warm and comfortable, Lambertville Station Restaurant is a terrific location whether dining indoors or out. If you are staying at the Inn or just visiting for the day, we highly recommend a visit!
Hot Grill, Clifton
No list is complete if you don’t have a Hot Dog, the Hot Grill in Clifton is our pick for 2017. Awesome Hot Dog plain and simple. Nice surroundings, good service, and good pricing. As the sign states, “World’s Tastiest” and they aren’t lying!
Mount Laurel Bagels & Bakery, Mount Laurel
Terrific service, awesome bagels. We ordered in advance for a party, having ready as promised. Nice location with breakfast offerings as well.
Chubby’s 1 1/2 Hearth Steakhouse, Gloucester City
Terrific decor, excellent service, awesome food. White cloth restaurant that delivers the complete experience.

The Habit Burger Grill, Cherry Hill
Loved the concept, and loved the burger more! Great location that is carving out its niche in the New Jersey burgerscape.
Tops Diner, East Newark
Since 1942 Tops Diner has been serving the Newark area. We made our first visit to Tops Diner this year for breakfast ordering one of our breakfast favorites, Eggs Benedict. (West Coast style). Beautifully presented, one of the best Eggs Benny we ever had. It was clear after our visit why Tops has been around since the 1940’s
Bogies Hoagies & Deli Hawthorne
Great local hoagie shop that offers it all from fantastic hoagies to excellent service and good pricing.
Happy Holiday’s and Happy New Year!
