Gloucester City’s Highland Tavern our fifth stop on our #divebarnj tour. Just a few blocks off Route 130, the Highland Tavern is located in a residential neighborhood. Converted home, the bar is one big room with a large bar, some pool tables, dart board and suffle bowling, no tables. Seated ourselves, a very friendly waitress quickly arrived took our drink order and left us with menus. Menu everything you’d expect along including a short list of daily specials.
Ordered a Southwest Burger and Sweet Chili Wings. Wings lightly breaded and meaty! Cooked perfectly, sauce was expertly used and delicious. Mildly warm, not overly sweet. Damn GOOD wings!
Southwest Burger> meat was nicely seasoned and juicy. Terrific flavors, we loved the black beans, corn and sauce, would have liked some more beans. Soft fresh roll added to the flavor experience. Burger was very good and needed no ketchup or mustard. Would like to see a bigger version hit the menu as it was on the small side.
Bar tab and kitchen tab separate. And this is a cash only establishment. A neighborhood bar that was loaded with the “neighborhood”. Very good bar food, highlighted by the excellent wings. Service friendly throughout, pricing modest, totaling $33.00 with 4 draft beers.
