Traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike I stopped at the Molly Pitcher Rest Stop looking for a quick bite. Not in the mood for a burger or sandwich, I opted for Arthur Treacher’s. Looked over the menu board deciding on the Shrimp Platter. Fried Shrimp, fries, slaw and hush puppies.
Meal coming out in about 5 minutes, which was a very long and painful 5 minutes as the counter employees talked among themselves with one singing to the music playing in the rest stop. I remark on this only because the initial service was poor and silent. The counter employee seemed irritated that someone came, no greeting, nothing just looked at me until I started to order.
Meal served in a covered plastic dish was appealing. Slaw, above average. Shrimp, not quite like the plump ones in the picture as they were small. Had good flavor though. Fries thick crinkle cut, mushy and greasy. Hush Puppies a bit boring.
Turnpike rest stop food comes in all styles. Arthur Treacher’s a step away from the greasy burger but you’ll still get some grease.
