August 26, 2017> Updating our original review and a second post on Rochester’s in Lawnside. We will keep it simple, they are still FANTASTIC! Friendly service in a laid back atmosphere is what you’ll get at Rochester’s. Also a BYOB so we sat and enjoyed our wine while they were busy in the kitchen. Crab Cake and Ribs and Chicken, that we sided with corn bread, black eyed peas, sweet potatoes, macaroni salad, hush puppies and mac and cheese. Gigantic portions! Plenty to take home. Well at least for one of us 🙂 Loved everything, the Ribs out of this world!!!
Rochester’s has been a 2015 & 2016 Top Pick for Good Food New Jersey. Will they make the cut in 2017? Keep an eye out for our annual 2017 Top Picks coming in December.
Rochester’s Barbeque & Grill, family owned and operated is offering traditional Southern and Soul Food to the Lawnside area. Beautiful surroundings, comfortable seating and fantastic food. GFNJ had the opportunity to visit Rochester’s on two occasions. The second visit we met with the family learning of the tradition behind their mission of bringing “Good Southern Soul Food to the masses.” Their superior offerings coming from their family backyard cooking and tastes inspired from their parents/owners Ernestine and Vincent Rochester, presented by Chef and son Vincent.
GFNJ sampled a large portion of the menu. Starting with the Beef Brisket, slow and low, 14 hours the beef melts in your mouth and fantastic flavorings. Rochester’s Ribs with their family recipe of sauce, superior tasting fall off the bone pork, they don’t get any better. The Chicken more of the same fantastic spicing combination which we sampled alone and during our first visit on a pub roll.
Rochester’s sides, we sampled the Mac & Cheese, Cole Slaw, and Baked Beans. The beans were an inspired offering with the additions of pork, beef and breakfast sausage. Sweet with a slight kick, these are not your average baked beans and could possibly be a meal by itself. The Mac & Cheese, creamy with texture crunch throughout, I recommend taking home a quart, the best I have ever had. The slaw made fresh, crunchy, mild a staple of sides that Rochester’s hits out of the park.
Homemade Corn Bread, the ingredients coming from a 200 year-old mill in North Carolina, perfectly moist a superior side that comes with butter but we did it honest and true, plain and couldn’t get enough.
When we closed out our first visit we finished off with the best Peach Cobbler ever! Fresh and flavorful, it simply doesn’t get any better than this!
Rochester’s barbeque, it’s all about family and tradition. Authentic barbeque at its best with Chef Vincent and Sous-Chef Sonya bringing all the backyard to their kitchen. GFNJ top pick for barbeque and friendly service. Vernon Rochester General Manager said it best, “Bringing the Tradition Back”. We found it was all that and more. Check out Rochester’s Barbeque and you’ll never use that Weber Grill again.

My husband and I often try new restaurants through social
Media coupons offers. I purchased a $90 value coupon from an online social media company for Rochester Bbq.The coupon was purchased March 32,2015 with. July 29, 2015 expiration date. No restrictions anywhere on the coupon. Excited to try something new, we called today to make a reservation for tonight. My hsuband stated we had a coupon. He was told that they are no longer accepting these coupons and to go back to the social media company for a refund-REALLY? We have trying new restaurants through coupon purchases for a few years. If we like them, we go back.I later called back and tried again and was told the same thing- they no longer accept the coupon I purchased. The lady on the phone was quite rude and told me there is nothing she could do- that she only worked there. I then requested to speak with the owner/manager and was told that he was not available. Shortly after a woman got on the phone and said she was the manager. She gave me more information than I cared to hear about how they hired a consultant early this year to increase business and that they took their coupon down off the website in June. that is all well and good but I explained that my coupon was purchased months before that date. What I learned is that when these coupons are purchased- as soon as you confirm the purchase, the company gets their money- whether you go or not.How can businesses offer a deal and then deny it when it is not expired? She offers me $30 of forbid for $15- sand a free dessert- Really, I am out $45 but I am going to come to your restaurant and give you an additional $15 PLUS what ever the difference is between the $30 and actual bill- sorry no deal. She Claimed that they no longer had the bottle of wine available that was offered with the coupon that I purchased- 2 entrées and a bottle of wine for $45a $90 value. s- REALLY- go out and buy a $5 bottle of wine, honor your coupon and do right by your customer or off 2 entrees and the equivalent appetizer of dessert to make up for the difference. bottom line is they sold over 600 coupons, increased their business and basically shutting the door on the remaining customers that didnt use their coupon quick enough. They may have ioncreased their business over the last several months due to a coupon promotion- but more than good food is needed to keep it that way. Read other reviews on other restaurant websites biggest complaint is service- we will not be eating here ever- guess they left their southern hospitality down south!
