Boro Bean Feature

Categories: Featured, Central Jersey, American

Tucked away neatly on East Broad Street in Hopewell is Boro Bean. Serving breakfast and lunch to the area for nearly 13 years. We visited for lunch and also chatted it up with the owners Ellen & John Abernathy.

BLT Bacon was abundant and the fresh greens killed it

Homemade & Local, this is the theme of Boro Bean. Locally sourced small world coffee from Rocky Hill. Beef from Beechtree Farm. Their bread is made from dough supplied by local Nomad Pizza. Eggs from a nearby farmer, and the seasonal needs from area farmers.

As for homemade, family recipes are the key, "If it was approved by our kids." From the chili to the slaw, and all in between, time tested family recipes is what's on the menu. Take home some soups or chili, I did two delicious soups and the chili. Chili offered well rounded flavor that had the right spice going on. Not spicy, but enough spice to warm you up from the inside out.

We paired it with terrific home-made bread, sopping up the last of the bowl. The soups, Roasted Creamy Tomato and Chicken Noodle. Both held serve against one another and I wouldn't pick one over the other. Delicious I enjoyed them both also with the homemade bread.

If you are in the mood for something outside of coffee, homemade Chai Tea is on the menu. Sampling this warm deliciousness while we were there. A beautiful blend of spicing and sugar, "the best drink in a cup EVER".

While chatting, I dined on a Tostado, and a BLT. The BLT has always been a personal favorite of mine, and this elevated version was great. Bacon was abundant and the fresh greens killed it! Delicious tomatoes in February? Where did they come from?

Tostado> marinated jerk pork with a lime vinaigrette cole-slaw, lime sour cream, and house pickled jalapenos. A wonderful combination that shows the versatility that comes out of their kitchen.

Locally sourced, homemade family recipes from the kitchen. Baking on premises, (GREAT MUFFINS!) Check out Boro Bean, a fantastic family owned gem open 7 days a week for breakfast and/or lunch.
