The Monarch Diner & Restaurant, comfortable and warm decor with a friendly staff warmly greeting you on entry. That was my experience when myself and a friend arrived on the tail- end of lunch. Seated in a comfortable booth, looked over the menu and decided on a lunch special. Crab Cake & Macaroni and Cheese, sided with stewed tomatoes. Soup or salad came with, deciding on Vegetarian Chick Pea Soup. (Diner has a nice section on the menu for the Vegetarian's)

Soup first to arrive, overall flavor very good. Cup was a hearty one. Veggies a bit large for a soup but it wasn't a big distraction. On the heels of the soup came the main dish. Crab Cake, a beautiful cake that was perfectly breaded and browned. Inside a ton of crab with lightly used filler. Flavor was very good! Mac & Cheese,cup was on the pedestrian side. Flavor mild and cheese a bit on the watery side, reminiscent of a Stouffer's Mac & Cheese. Stewed Tomatoes, deserving of awards! I loved the sweetness of the offering. Tomatoes were slightly firm, onion used sparingly. were they from a local NJ farm? They sure tasted as they were! The Monarch Diner,excellent service, very good food, and a fantastic environment.
