Somerset Diner

Visited the Somerset Diner for dinner, seated immediately and promptly attended to. Large menu as you would expect at a New Jersey Diner, with breakfast all day. Dinner Special Menu as well, which we did order from. Veal Palermo entree choice. Also came with soup, and on recommendation we went with the Lentil Soup. Bowl, no cup as many diners serve. Delicious broth, loaded with tender lentils. Very good overall flavor. Mushrooms of the canned variety and sliced were large and chewy. Take the canned mushrooms away you have a soup that's a "5".

Veal Palermo- came out just as I was finishing soup. Another gigantic serving with what seemed like a pound of pasta. YEAH, to leftovers and lunch the next day!! Mushrooms/Onions in a Marinara, Veal Cubes topped with melted mozzarella. Veal was not cubes was a cutlets, cooked perfectly, tender and delicious. Nice flavor of the sauce. Onions used just enough. Good balance. But, those dreaded canned mushrooms again. Large slices that added no flavor and were chewy. The Veal Palermo I would get again, very satisfying meal overall. Service was excellent, as the waitress was friendly, attentive, making the overall diner experience very good. The Somerset Diner, very good food that with some minor changes (get rid of the canned mushrooms, or try another brand) has 5-Star around the corner. Let us know when you go!
